Playa Pavones Bahia Pavon School
Pavones School Information
The Playa Pavones Bahía Pavón School has extracurricular activities as well. They have recently been national champions for primary school soccer and continue to be competitive at a national level. The school also has the instruments for a marching band, although instructors are hard to come by.
Detailed History:
The Playa Pavones Bahía Pavón school opened in 1961 when many people came from Puerto Jimienez to live in Cocal Amarillo. The school was founded by Lorenzo Concepcion and Antonio Marchena. Classes were first given in a small thatch roof hut, however, the first two room building was built eight months later. At this time, there were 54 students and the first teacher was don Danilo Casal Morgan. At this time, the school was very close to the beach. In 1988, the school zone was shifted away from the beach 200 meters, where it is now located. In this year, the institution shifted to a one-teacher school house.
This is because at this time many North Americans started buying farms in the surrounding area, and the local Ticos were moving away, causing low enrollment numbers. In 1990, many Tico squatters came to town to claim lands and the enrollment grew again, being reclassified as “One Direction.” Since then the enrollment has maintained consistent numbers. In 2010, for changes in enrollment ranks, the school is now classified as “Two Direction.”
