My Home Build In Costa Rica

New Construction in Costa ricaa

My Pavones Lot Ready To Build

My New Home Build

Building a home in Pavones, Costa Rica was for me, not that hard… You have to check around, ask questions about types of building styles, contractors, materials, water, electricity, and how long is this going to take?

My Contractor told me my home would be ready in 3 months…. 6 months later I was moving into my new home…

I was currently living in an oceanfront home in Playa Zancudo, I would bike ride the 16 miles round trip 4 times a week to check on the progress and making sure things were going the way it should….

My home was built with steel and solid concrete block, you have different options running from a wood home to prefab and onto block style homes. Some people have even used shipping containers…

I had a crew of 6 men with 1 foreman who more or less ran the show, they thought I was crazy when I told them that the perimeter walLs were to be 10 feet high as opposed to the normal 8 feet that the Tico builders in the area were building. I was told that the home would look funny and that the doors and windows would not look good with such high walls… My response to that was “just build it, you will see”…

The roof I used was a 20-year tin roof of good quality, you can go a lot cheaper but I would not recommend it. I also installed three and a half inch thick fiberglass installation between the metal roof and the half-inch green board below.  The windows are metal framed with screens, highly recommended to keep the creepy crawlers out of the house.

I had wood cabinets installed in the kitchen and bathroom with granite counter tops.I highly recommend granite as its just a few more dollars more than tile and much easier to keep clean.

‘When it is all said and done, there were some challenges, but nothing too extreme. Saying That would I do it again?
Yes, I would…
